can you perceive your own hypocrisy?
When we understand that good and bad doesn’t represent reality; Heroes and villains are not a realistic interpretation of life. That there is no ‘hopeless’ victim and no ‘gallant’ prince/princess/icon to rescue or save anyone but themselves; thus, what should we make of this withered space that society base its and our expectations on?
It is clear that the most ‘wise’ people around are still influenced by their time, society, culture and other aspects that: sometimes limit and sometimes can emphasize certain knowledges. “A man of his time” this ‘saying’ pops over and over and over. Specially when comes to groundbreakers like Freud, Nietzsche, Darwin, Gandhi, MadreTeresa, the list is long and painful.
To get to a point, I’m going to mix this starting thought with a word that I’ve been hearing a lot recently that is: Natural. - ‘Look at the dolphins, look at nature!’ At the same time I’m glazing the skyline of Miami. My answer was: I’m enjoying looking at nature too. - ‘Noooo, that’s man made shit, it’s not nature. Look at the dolphins, they can live naked, with no internet or wifi.’ Given that I cannot get my mouth shut, my first answer was: do you think this city is not natural? Humans are sooooooooo anthropocentric. We believe we’re not part of nature, or that we do have a separation or sort of vip room somewhere on earth. We are nature, natural, everything we produce is natural, even plastic, batteries, smartphones, etc.
This globe have been populated with several types of creatures and intelligences before, from unicellular, multicellular, no cellular (who knows) and any other past things. Do I believe in climate change? Specially when I put past sentence in the table and people believe I’m skeptical. I do believe humanity has a great impact on the earth atmosphere, climate, oceans and many other facts. However, I cannot decide if it's good/bad/ethical/amoral.
If we do want to preserve homo sapiens for longer in this planet, changes will have to be done. Easter island is the most clarifying example of our impact, however, we know what’s going on and most of the action we need to be taking (apart lucrative, lobbying and mafia interests).
Nobody is good, when you wear the only shirt you could afford for $10 on H&#, Z4ra or any big fast fashion company, do you know what went behind it? Sweatshops, slaves, child labor. Should you know? Do you want to know?
Nobody is good, beef production and deforestation are one of the worst carbon footprints there are currently. Do you think about every gallon of water and the separation between mother and calf when you have a burger?
Nobody is good, do you know that smartphones/computer really in mining that is ‘mostly’ shady done within Africa for lithium, cobalt and other metals? Do you think this every time you touch your phone or send an email?
Nobody is good, most of your taxes, excluding couple of countries (that don’t even account for 2% of the world’s population) are completely ineffective and end up in places I don’t even want to think about it.
It’s easy to point out crap on other people, societies and cultures. Is easy to find one cause and go for it. However, when you look within you. You’re part of the system, you explore people and people explore you. Of course the proportions here haven’t been stablished. However, even being on the “top” or what some people believe is the dream life doesn’t even satisfy them. Usually they just become an envy and status fight for mediocre things.
Sure everyone has it’s own reality. Everybody is ‘bad’ somehow, but everybody is ‘good’ too. What I want to get from this madness speech is that everyone here is human. We’re animals, we have desires, tastes and preferences. Nobody is keeping score. Make sure you’re being empathic, understanding, listening to your beloved ones and do what you believe is best.
In my opinion, homo sapiens are definitely going to be extinct sooner than we imagine. So let’s take care of our own little house. Stop fighting about crappy arguments and believe that we can be kind to the ones around us.
